Teachers wonder what fall will hold

Governor Laura Kelly's official request to defer the beginning of school until after Labor Day is giving schools additional opportunity to get their arrangements together.

A few educators that work in a specialized curriculum state they are no nearer to having a sense of safety about what is coming in the fall.

"Nobody realizes what to do yet. How this is going to function? How it will look?" ponders Brenda Moon, resigned specialized curriculum educator of 18 years.

Teachers are attempting to choose whether in-person classes, web based learning, or a cross breed will be ideal. Moon says for a specialized curriculum a one-size answer isn't as basic.

"State in the event that we showed K-5, you may have fifth graders working at a second grade level. How could that be going to function, when we have on-level understudies in a similar room?"

Since Moon is resigned, she is utilizing her opportunity to advocate for those understudies with uncommon requirements in Topeka.

"Who's settling on the choice for this child goes to class and this child does on the web? Where does that fall and who settles on that choice and they don't realize that without a doubt yet," she said.
